Liberty Lake, Washington, is a suburb of Spokane with a population of approximately 8,000. It is located directly north of the lake with the same name. Liberty Lake is the most affluent community in Spokane County. It is conveniently situated just south of Interstate 90, between Coeur d’Alene and Spokane.
The city was named after a French Canadian settler that served as a mail carrier in the area in the early 1870s. His name was Etienne Edward Laliberte, but he later changed it to “Steve Liberty.” The area was further settled as pioneers made their way along the Oregon Trail. Liberty Lake was incorporated in 2001.
Parks and Recreation
Liberty Lake Regional Park is one of the largest county parks in this part of the state. It offers 3,591 acres of swimming, camping and picnicking possibilities. Lifeguards are deployed on a seasonal basis. Hikers enjoy over seven miles of trails, and many scenic vistas await.

Liberty Lake Golf Course is one of the best municipal layouts In the county, thanks in part to a $6 million renovation completed in 2010. The 6,607-yard, par 70 course plays to a respectable slope of 128. The USGA course rating is 71.1.
