Spokane North, WA Real Estate, Spokane North Area and Community Information

Spokane North is a section of the city of Spokane that encompasses about 5,000 residences. The architecture in the area reflects the northward migration of the city as it grew during the 20th century. The southern section of the North Hill area includes Victorians and bungalows of early 1900s vintage. To the north, there are more contemporary Spokane North homes that were generally built during the period 1950-1980. Division Street is a major thoroughfare that grants owners of Spokane North real estate easy access to downtown Spokane to the south.

History
Ancient hunter-gatherers plied the forests in search of wild game for thousands of years. Salmon and berries were nutritional supplements to the diet of the Native Americans that lived here for a long time. In the early part of the 19th century, the Northwest Fur Company sent trappers into the area. Soon thereafter, the first trading post was established along the Spokane River. It became known as “The Spokane House,” and it did business with trappers and others from 1810 to 1826. The community saw real growth in the late 1800s when some pioneers traveling along the Oregon Trail chose to settle along the shores of the Spokane River.
